Talk Therapy

A black letter board with white letters that reads, "Difficult roads lead to beautiful destinations." Next to the board on the left is a small potted plant with green leaves.

When it comes to traditional talk therapy, I draw from a variety of approaches that include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and Internal Family Systems Therapy. The specific techniques and approaches we use in session will depend on your goals and preferences. Fundamentally, my approach to helping people revolves around my firm belief that everyone, without exception, is fundamentally good and capable of growth, healing, and self-insight.

In life, we can get bogged down and become stuck in patterns of behaviour and thought that no longer serve us. Our goal, as therapist and client, is to find new ways of making sense of yourself and your world that lifts you up instead of dragging you down. For some, this might mean learning new skills and changing patterns of behaviour. It might mean writing a new life story that highlights your personal strengths and goodness. It can mean unlearning damaging stories you were told about yourself during vulnerable points in your life that simply aren’t true. For others, it can mean finding peace through getting to know and welcoming unfamiliar parts of yourself.

Therapy doesn’t always feel good. Turning inward can sometimes be challenging or, even, daunting. Some people find that their needs have been met after only a few sessions while others may take years to address their issues. Whatever approach we take, you can expect thoughtful questions, unwavering emotional support, and gentle encouragement in our work together.
